Mr. Mohammed Bara Adamu
Mr. Mohammed Bara Adamu joined the West African Institute for Financial and Economic Management (WAIFEM) on October 15, 2025, as Director, Fiscal Policy, Debt Management and Regional Integration Department.
He holds a Master of Philosophy (MPhil) in Economics from Nile University of Nigeria and, a Master’s degree in Financial Economics from the University of Leicester, United Kingdom. He is currently pursuing a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Development Finance at Nasarawa State University, Keffi. Mr. Adamu graduated as the overall best student in the Department of Accountancy, University of Maiduguri, in 2000.
A Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) and an Associate of the Chartered Institute of Stockbrokers (CIS), Mr. Adamu has over two decades of experience spanning Public Finance, Public Debt Management, Capital Markets, and Fiscal Policy.
Before joining WAIFEM, he served as Head of the Securities Issuance Unit at the Debt Management Office (DMO), Nigeria, where he made significant contribution in deepening Nigeria’s Domestic Debt Capital Market. He played a key role in the issuance of Nigeria’s debut Sovereign Sukuk, Green Bonds, Federal Government of Nigeria (FGN) Savings Bond, and Domestic FGN US Dollar Bonds. He also played an active role in formulating Nigeria’s Strategic Debt Frameworks, including the Debt Sustainability Analysis (DSA) and the Medium-Term Debt Management Strategy (MTDS).
Mr. Adamu served as a member of Monetary and Fiscal Policy Implementation Committee, Technical Committee on the implementation of the National Treasury Single Account (TSA) and the Inter-Ministerial Committee for the Review of the National Chart of Accounts.
Earlier in his career, he worked at the Office of the Accountant General of the Federation in 2003 and later joined Nigeria Mobile Telecommunications Limited (M-Tel), where he worked until 2007. He attended various World Bank/IMF Annual General Meetings and participated in numerous local and international professional trainings, seminars, and workshops in fiscal policy, debt management, and financial sector development.
He is married and blessed with four children.
